Back in September, good friends Mike and Naomi hired me to take their portraits as they were expecting their first child. Little Ethan arrived near the end of October and I was asked to photograph Mike and Naomi’s new addition to their family.
I arrived at their home on a Saturday morning. While Naomi was finishing up getting ready, Mike was watching Ethan nap while getting in a little Call of Duty time. We decided to get a number of portraits of Ethan in a few different outfits along with some portraits of Mike and Naomi with Ethan.
For a majority of my shots I used off camera flash. I initially was diffusing it with a Lumiquest LPt softbox, but after chimping at my screen early on, I decided I wasn’t liking the look of the light. I then switched to using a shoot-through umbrella or bouncing the flash off the ceiling. That light proved to be softer and more to my liking.
Ethan was a blast to photograph. He was very cooperative and made for a great subject. I wish all the best to him and his parents.
Below and above are a sampling of some of my favorite shots from this shoot.
