Old Town Alexandria held its annual Scottish Christmas Walk Parade celebrating the city’s Scottish foundations. I was on assignment for Patch.com to cover one of the adjacent events, the Holiday Designer Tour of Homes. Since I finished that assignment early, I was able to capture the end of the parade.
The Scottish events in Old Town bring out a lot of kilts, terriers, and wolfhounds. Not only were those involved in the parade dressed up in a lot of Scottish attire, many of the spectators were as well.
This year’s parade brought with it some great weather. It was sunny and cool, perfect for late Fall.
I had with me my Nikon FE sporting a Nikon 35 mm f/2 lens. Loading it with some Kodak Portra 400 film was a good choice since it helped to capture the variety of colorful outfits I came across.
As I bobbed and weaved amongst the crowd and the parade marchers, I found that events like this really lead itself nicely to street photography. No one seemed to mind having their photo taken and I easily blended in the sea of DSLRs, point-and-shoots, and iPhones.
Below (and above) are a small set of my favorite shots from the small time I spent at the parade.
