Here’s another street shot from my trip to Portland, Oregon. Whilst taking the light rail back to my hotel room I managed to capture this fellow deep in his thoughts. I took a few shots during the week in this manner, but this turned out to be my favorite.
I was sitting across the aisle from this person and completely shot this from the hip. Before anyone had sat down across from me I pre-focused on that seat and metered for the light. I then waited until the seat was occupied to photograph the person across from me. Since I had pre-focused and metered, I didn’t have to lift up my camera and just took the shot. This was my favorite light rail shot from Portland.
As a quick aside, I’d like to give the wonderful photo blog DC Metro People a quick shout-out for inspiring this shot. Ryan’s photos of people on the metro are mesmerizing, beautiful, and enduring. His photos inspire me to continue doing street photography. Make sure to check out his blog sometime, you’ll be in for a treat.
