How to Not Freeze On a Cold Evening Photo Outing

This past Saturday, my kidnap victim wife and I headed out to Gravelly Point to meet-up with the Night and Low Light Photography Group.  The goal of the meet-up was to get some long exposure photos of airplanes taking off from Reagan National Airport.

We both bundled up in multiple layers and headed out.  The temps were excruciatingly low, but I was able to get away with at least one shot that I liked a lot.

This photo was shot shortly after the Sun went below the horizon.  There was still some light spilling over while the rest of the sky turned into this deep blue.  Right then, a plane took off and I was able to grab this shot.

The meet-up was intending to stay until the Moon rose into the sky, but Cheri and I couldn’t last that long.  We left after about an hour and hit up a Starbucks on the way home.
